Janet Echelman is an American artist. Janet creates fluid moving sculptures using nets. Inspired by the local fisherman in Mahabalipuram, India where she learned the netting techniques. Janet’s first public sculptures series called “Bellbottoms’ was installed in Mahabalipuram, India. Janet uses weather and UV resistant fibres which are both machine and hand-woven for her floating sculptures. For the past five years, Janet Echelman has built several permanent floating net sculpture installations in San Francisco, Phoenix, Denver, Portugal and British Columbia.
